About me...
Hi! My name is Myrto Levidi and I am a qualified registered Psychologist (in both Greece and Australia). I started my studies in psychology in 2009 and ever since I have obtained two Bachelors (with Honours) in Psychology and a Masters in Clinical Psychology from The Cairnmillar Institute in Melbourne, Australia, where I lived in and worked as a psychotherapist / psychologist for the past nine years. I work as a research associate with Australian universities in the field of anxiety, depression, anger/aggression and criminal behaviour, having so far published three scientific researches in international psychology journals. I completed my two-year internship in Australia and ever since I have worked in various areas of the field, including a psychiatric ward, schools and private clinics, where I attended therapeutic and diagnostic cases. I have recently relocated to Greece and opened my own private practice as a Clinical Psychologist in the beautiful town of Glyfada. I work with adults, children and adolescents diagnostically and therapeutically, suffering from a wide range of difficulties and psychological issues - ranging from stress, anxiety and depression to loss/bereavement, drug/alcohol issues, eating disorders and personality disorders. I have extensive experience in runing group therapy sessions and expertise in working with couples and families.

On a personal note, I have a great appreciation and respect for peoples’ own stories and diverse backgrounds. I believe that, despite any past or ongoing challenges, it's never too late to take the step and embark on a life-changing journey of self-improvement. Altough being unique, we all have the capacity for great changes and the ability to make our own choices, given that we are ready to do so and have the right guidance. I am here to give you this opportunity, guiding you through life’s most complex and difficult matters and working with you - side by side - throughout a journey that will help you lead a better, more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Using an empathetic, warm, person-centered and non-judgmental approach, our sessions will provide you with a safe space where we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals. In feeling safe and comfortable, you’ll be able to gain clarity and be understood and heard. The most important thing to know about our sessions is that this will be a collaborative process and our focus will be on setting goals and working on reaching them together. We will be a team! There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to therapy - our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.

Tailoring treatments when working with individuals is of great importance to me. To ensure that a person-centred approach is implemented to achieve each of my clients’ goals, I have been trained and experienced in a wide range of evidence-based approaches. Those include Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-focused Therapy (SFT), Emotion-focused Therapy (EFT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-based Therapy, Motivational interviewing, Narrative Therapy, and Psychoanalysis. Choosing which approaches will be integrated into our therapy will be based upon your needs, your goals and the specific difficulties you want to work on.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is a relatively new therapeutic approach that has gained increased popularity over the last decades due to its effectiveness in the treatment of various issues, including depressive symptoms, anxiety-related disorders, general mental health, chronic pain and long-term conditions. It is characterised as a behavioural therapy that looks at the effects of events and unlike CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), it aims to increase clients' awareness of their unhelpful thoughts and reduce their functional influence, instead of challenging these thoughts, making it more relevant to chronic issues. In short, the main goal of ACT is to help the clients build psychological flexibility and alter their relational responding by changing the context in which an event is experienced. That is, to help the clients contact the present moment more fully and engage in behaviours that are more important to them and more consistent with their values. This is achieved using a range of evidence-based techniues, such as mindfulness, cognitive defusion, acceptance of emotions, coping strategies and psychoeducation.

In my sessions, I incorporate many elements from ACT as I believe that it is biologicaly normal to have unpleasant thoughts and feelings. Therefore a great deal of therapy is focused on accepting those thougths and feelings and actualy changind the contextual influence they have on you, rather than changing these directly.
